Wedding Planner Myths

Top wedding planner myths BUSTED!

Here is a list of common misconceptions of wedding planners. Based on personal experience and the common answers from couples when I ask why they didn’t hire a wedding planner.

1. Cost too much

I’m here to tell ya it is an investment and in the long run a wedding planner can save you money and sanity. How do we do that? Easy, connections, time management, and experience. That is what you are truly paying for when hiring a wedding planner; their knowledge. Knowing how to keep you in your budget, who to recommend with in that budget and often times let you know where you can save too. Then there is your sanity. Hiring and trusting your planner is key, remember this is not their first time planning a wedding and do it for a living. Same concept of hiring someone to come do work on your house or car if you are not skilled in that area.

2. My venue has a coordinator

That maybe so, but often venue coordinators are just that coordinators for the venue. Their main responsibility it is to protect the venue. Where as a wedding planner is their for you the whole wedding not just the parts at the venue… ex: ceremony, reception, transportation. Venue coordinators can and sometimes help with setting up venue items: linens, tables, layouts, food & beverage (if catering is on site). Where as wedding planners guide you through this whole process, keep you on time and schedule, refer other vendors, check in and confirm with vendors, and keep everything in line and perfect for your big day. While we do work closely with venue coordinators our scope of work goes beyond the venue.

3. They only do large weddings or my style doesn’t fit with theirs.

False. Depending on what type of planning you choose is how much it will cost from basic coordinating to full service there is a range and it also depends on the area. Bigger cities will cost more but ideally you want to spend about 10% of your budget on your wedding planner. As for style, any great planner will listen to your ideas, dreams, wishes, visions and bring different ideas to the table with style and flow. Just because their website is full of light and airy photos doesn’t mean that dark and moody couples are not in their wheelhouse. Maybe the light and airy pictures are the newest wedding they have done. You never know until you ask!

4. My family is talented they will help me with everything

True, families are great but do you really want them planning your wedding? Tearing down and setting up decor, worried about when the food is served? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Plus once the day comes they will want to enjoy the day and not stress about every detail. That is what your planner is for, worrying and executing all the details!
